Just because we’ve come a long way since the days of the ‘Susie Homemaker’ idea of women, doesn’t mean we can’t still rock the bold twists and sleek curls of the 50s. Here are some examples of women giving these timeless looks a modern touch. We think these styles would pair perfectly with this 50s inspired floral print dress from Kay Unger for edressme.

1960s Hair Trends

The era of the mod girl. Bright colors, big hair, and bold experimentation! The women of the 60s are the women who truly started to find themselves. We left the home and entered the office in big waves. It was a big time for us, so it was only right our hair be big too. Check out these bee-hives! Blake Lively’s gotta have an entire novel worth of secrets up in that thing!

1970s

Earthy and natural. After a decade of experimentation, things calmed down a bit and women started sporting a more naturally tousled look. The hair got tamer, but the clothes got groovier.

1980sThings get amped up again in the 80s! We’re back to big hair and even brighter colors than the 60s. Neon..EVERYWHERE. Hairspray..EVERYWHERE. Hair..EVERYWHERE. Hair was the thing in the 80s, it was your prized possession along with your Madonna album and 20 cans of Aqua Net.

1990s

‘THE RACHEL.’ If you’re anywhere from your mid-twenties to mid-forties, or let’s just say, had a pulse in the mid 90s; you know ‘THE RACHEL’ and you know it well. Jennifer Aniston, who played Rachel on the show Friends, is to thank for putting this haircut on the map…on the globe in the 90s. The 90s is also known for its quirky hair trends like butterfly clips, bra strap headbands and ballerina buns.
